Summary: Very High Ratio and Speed Compression Designed for Large Files
LRZIP is a compression program that can achieve very high compression
ratios and speed when used with large files. It uses the combined compression
algorithms of lzma for maximum compression, lzo for maximum speed, and the long
range redundancy reduction of rzip. It is designed to scale with increases
with RAM size, improving compression further. A choice of either size or
speed optimizations allows for either better compression than even lzma can
provide, or better speed than gzip, but with bzip2 sized compression levels.

Changelog

* Sat Oct 17 2026 Martin Pluskal <mpluskal@suse.com>
  - Update to version 0.703 (upstream 0.7.3):
    * Numerous performance speedups: batched AES-GCM/GHASH, hardware
      AES rounds where supported, overlapped compression and MD5,
      cached sliding-window history
    * Fix decompression of archives made by lrzip <= 0.4 (bounded
      token length)
  - Exclude 32-bit arches: upstream 0.7.x removed all 32-bit code
    paths and refuses to compile where pointers are < 8 bytes
  - Add python3-base BuildRequires: the 0.7.3 regression suite embeds
    a stdlib-only python3 AEAD pipeline test in %check
* Sat Sep 12 2026 Martin Pluskal <mpluskal@suse.com>
  - Rework to version 0.702 with no Epoch (Epoch forbidden per review):
    upstream 0.7.2 maps to 0.702 (7*100+2), which sorts above
    0.660 in rpmvercmp; same mapping holds for 0.7.x/0.8.x/0.10.x
  - Drop Epoch 1 from the declined submission
* Sat Sep 12 2026 Martin Pluskal <mpluskal@suse.com>
  - Update to version 0.7.2:
    * New mostly backward compatible file format, except streamed
      STDIO and encrypted files (see README-NOT-BACKWARD-COMPATIBLE)
    * Embedded libzpaq 5.00 -> 7.15 and LZMA SDK -> 26.02 for faster
      and better compression
    * Default encryption is now AES-256-GCM + PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA512, add
    - -legacy-encrypt for 0.6-compatible AES-128-CBC
    * Add -u/ultra mode, lzma filter support, lrztar takes most lrzip
      options, MacOS build fixes
  - Add Epoch 1: upstream renumbered 0.660 -> 0.7.x, which sorts older
    in rpmvercmp, so this keeps the update an upgrade
  - Switch to the upstream release tarball (ships configure): drop
    autoconf/automake/libtool/nasm BuildRequires and the autoreconf step
  - Add perl BuildRequires for pod2man (man pages generate at build time)
  - Run the upstream regression suite in %check (SKIP_SLOW=1)
* Sun Jun 21 2026 Martin Pluskal <mpluskal@suse.com>
  - Update to version 0.660:
    * Do not clean up thread structures in decompression failure
      conditions, fixing a use-after-free in lzma_decompress_buf() and a
      NULL pointer dereference in ucompthread() on corrupt/malicious
      archives (CVE-2025-15570, boo#1258016; CVE-2025-15571, boo#1258023)
    * Handle -L given without a parameter, fixing a NULL pointer
      dereference (CVE-2025-9396, boo#1248598)
    * Add write bounds checking in libzpaq and sanity checks for
      maliciously encoded headers and oversized allocations
    * Various STDIO, portability and build fixes (OpenBSD support,
      non-x86 zpaq, autoconf warnings); drop Doxygen doc build
  - Switch Source to the upstream GitHub release tarball (0.660 is not
    published on ck.kolivas.org) and run autoreconf at build time
  - Drop fixasmstack.patch (merged upstream)
* Tue May 02 2023 Guillaume GARDET <guillaume.gardet@opensuse.org>
  - Disable asm on non-x86* architectures to fix builds
* Fri Apr 28 2023 Martin Pluskal <mpluskal@suse.com>
  - Update to version 0.641:
    * No changelog available
* Thu Apr 27 2023 Bernhard Wiedemann <bwiedemann@suse.com>
  - Add fixasmstack.patch to mark stack as non-executable
    to fix build on x86_64 and others
* Sun Mar 07 2021 Andreas Stieger <andreas.stieger@gmx.de>
  - lrzip 0.641:
    * lz4 now used for compressibility testing (only)
    * Fixes for handling of corrupt archives without crashing
    * Fixes for creating small lzma based archives to stdout
    * Incomplete files are now deleted on interrupting lrzip unless
      the keep-broken option is enabled
    * Version prints to stdout instead of stderr
    * Assembler code is back and works with x86_64
* Fri Oct 21 2016 mpluskal@suse.com
  - Update to version 0.631:
    * No changelog available
  - Small spec file cleanup
* Mon Jun 27 2016 mpluskal@suse.com
  - Add conflict with rzsz as it also provides binary called lrz
