Summary: ACARS SDR decoder
A multi-channel ACARS decoder with built-in rtl_sdr and airspy front ends,
which can also decode from an ALSA capture device or from an audio file.
Decoded messages can be written to files or sent over UDP in one-line, full
text, PlanePlotter, acarsserv or JSON format, and ARINC-622 ATS applications
(ADS-C, CPDLC) are decoded through libacars. It comes with a database
backend, acarsserv, to store received ACARS messages.

Changelog

* Wed Aug 26 2026 Martin Pluskal <mpluskal@suse.com>
  - Switch to the actively maintained upstream repository
    f00b4r0/acarsdec:
    * the original TLeconte/acarsdec repository was archived on
      2025-07-31 with tag acarsdec-3.7 (2022) as its last release, and
      its README now designates f00b4r0/acarsdec as the continuation
    * all development from 4.0 onwards happens in that repository;
      Arch (AUR) and Guix track it as well
    * URL and Source have been repointed accordingly
  - Upstream renamed the release tags from acarsdec-X.Y to vX.Y and the
    archive now unpacks to acarsdec-<version>, so the srcname helper
    macro used for the old tarball layout was dropped
  - Update to version 4.6:
    * partial sdrplay API v3 support, marked untested and unmaintained
      by upstream
    * fix a potential buffer overrun in the ACARS decoder when handling
      abnormally long messages
    * fix a buffer overrun in the file output when rotation is enabled
      on a pathname that contains an extension
  - Changes from version 4.5:
    * Airspy R2 support
  - Changes from version 4.4.1:
    * fix the operation of --skip-reassembly
  - Changes from version 4.4:
    * MSK demodulator revamp
    * SoapySDR and Airspy updates
    * fix the build when paho-mqtt is not installed
  - Changes from version 4.3.1:
    * fix a compile failure with CMake older than 3.26
  - Changes from version 4.3:
    * backends now carry their own default configuration and SoapySDR
      picks its sample rate multiplier automatically
    * the sample recording test.wav was resampled to 12 kHz
    * the version string is taken from git describe when building from
      a checkout, with an in-tree fallback for release tarballs
  - Changes from version 4.2:
    * new noise floor estimator; the receiver bandwidth is now set for
      rtlsdr and SoapySDR and the rtlsdr sample rate multiplier is
      chosen automatically
    * report the signal level after sync and flag messages received
      above 0 dB
    * the internal sample rate is fixed at 12 kHz
    * fix the build with recent CMake releases
  - Changes from version 4.1:
    * ACARS decoder and MSK demodulator rework: sync on the entire
      PREKEY, reworked level estimator, vectorizable parity removal and
      several out-of-bound accesses fixed in the output path
    * the libsndfile input gained raw audio support and accepts any
      sample rate that is a multiple of 12 kHz
  - Changes from version 4.0:
    * new SoapySDR input backend and ALSA capture input
    * StatsD reporting of decoder statistics via the new --statsd option
    * the command line was reworked: input sources are selected with
      long options (--rtlsdr, --soapysdr, --airspy, --sdrplay,
    - -sndfile, --alsa) and all logging is configured through one or
      more --output FORMAT:DESTINATION:DESTPARAMS arguments, replacing
      the old -r, -s, -n, -N, -j, -l, -H and -D switches; at least one
    - -output argument is now mandatory
    * new monitor and routejson output formats and per-output logfile
      rotation
    * the number of simultaneously decoded channels is no longer capped
      at 8
    * bias tee support for rtlsdr and center frequency selection for
      every SDR backend except Airspy
    * the network outputs reconnect automatically
    * the bundled cJSON copy was removed in favour of the system library
    * a LICENSE file was added
  - Fix the SDR backend selection, which had never taken effect: the
    3.x spec passed -DLIBRTL=1 and -DLIBAIR=1, but those are the
    internal find_library cache variables, not the CMake options, which
    were named rtl and airspy. As a result no SDR front end was ever
    compiled in and the shipped binary could only decode from an audio
    file. The 4.x option names are now passed explicitly and the binary
    links against librtlsdr and libairspy again
  - Build against the system cJSON library and drop the now false
    bundled(cJSON) provides; adds a build dependency on
    pkgconfig(libcjson)
  - Enable the ALSA capture input added in 4.0; adds a build dependency
    on pkgconfig(alsa)
  - Disable the SoapySDR and SDRplay backends explicitly, as SoapySDR is
    not packaged in openSUSE and the sdrplay_api v3 library is
    proprietary
  - Keep the MQTT output disabled, as it was before the 4.x switch, so
    that paho-mqtt-c is not pulled into every installation
  - Drop patch:
    * reproducible.patch -- upstream stopped forcing -march=native in
      4.0, so the patch no longer applies and is no longer needed
      (boo#1100677)
  - Drop the -DCMAKE_POLICY_VERSION_MINIMUM=3.5 workaround, as upstream
    now requires CMake 3.12 and builds with CMake 4; raise the cmake
    build dependency to the version upstream actually checks for
  - Correct the license to GPL-2.0-only: 4.0 added a LICENSE.md holding
    the GPL version 2 text and README.md states GPLv2-only. The per-file
    boilerplate naming the Library GPL version 2 is a long-standing
    upstream typo and is recorded as a Legal-Review-Notice in the spec
  - Install LICENSE.md with the license macro
  - Replace the ctest based check, which never had a single test to run,
    with a functional smoke test that decodes the sample recording
    shipped by upstream
  - Refresh the package description for the input sources and output
    formats supported by 4.x
* Thu Mar 20 2025 Shawn Dunn <sfalken@opensuse.org>
  - Add -DCMAKE_POLICY_VERSION_MINIMUM=3.5 to fix FTBFS with cmake4
  - Add %check section
* Tue Feb 20 2024 Dominique Leuenberger <dimstar@opensuse.org>
  - Use %autosetup macro. Allows to eliminate the usage of deprecated
    %patchN.
* Tue Dec 27 2022 Ferdinand Thiessen <rpm@fthiessen.de>
  - Fix SourceURL
* Mon Oct 10 2022 Ferdinand Thiessen <rpm@fthiessen.de>
