Summary: Library for building terminal user interfaces
OpenTUI is a library for building terminal user interfaces. Layout, text
shaping, buffer diffing and rendering are done by a native core written in
Zig, which TypeScript programs drive over FFI.

This package contains that native core. The TypeScript that calls it is in
opentui-devel.

Changelog

* Sat Oct 03 2026 Martin Pluskal <mpluskal@suse.com>
  - Update to 0.5.14, which also carries 0.5.13 (opencode v2 pins
    @opentui/* at exactly this version; the FFI ABI is private and
    unversioned, so both halves and every consumer move together):
    * Fixed a leak in the native text buffer: replacing a buffer's
      contents kept the whole previous rope alive, so a 2000-line
      text grew RSS by 1.24 MB per call and 2000 calls reached
      2.5 GB. Bytes loaded from a file no longer sit in the rope
      arena where the next document could pick them up either
    * Fixed the terminal not repainting when a debounced SIGWINCH
      burst shrank and restored the original geometry inside the
      100 ms window, which could leave a stale screen until some
      later resize
    * Fixed a busy rerender loop: a child attached after a layout
      pass makes Yoga report NaN dimensions, and since NaN is never
      equal to itself the layout kept being redone
    * Fixed the SolidJS portal leaking its children's listeners on
      teardown
    * Under tmux, terminal capability probes are now sent unwrapped,
      so tmux answers the pane that asked instead of a pane switch
      delivering the reply to the wrong pane as input. Focus tracking
      is enabled whenever tmux is detected, and an explicitly
      requested Sixel protocol is honoured through passthrough
    * Fixed kitty graphics drawn above the cell background
    * Cut FFI traffic and per-cell work in the native core: selection
      updates skip the native reset for text views with no selection,
      buffer resizes reallocate only once the cells stop fitting (and
      a failed resize now leaves the buffer unchanged instead of
      shortening a cell array), and colour bytes round without a libm
      call
    * Draw text and box titles encode into reused storage rather than
      allocating a buffer per call
    * Many more fixes and improvements; see upstream's release notes
      for the full list
* Sun Sep 27 2026 Martin Pluskal <mpluskal@suse.com>
  - Update to 0.5.12 (opencode v2 pins @opentui/* at exactly this
    version; the FFI ABI is unversioned so both move together):
    * Native core now needs Zig 0.16 and lives in packages/native;
      its Zig dependencies and image libraries ship vendored in-tree
    * New embedded terminal runtime and native image rendering in
      the library, plus audio input capture and clipboard support
    * Per-line text alignment, mouse pointer styles, double/triple
      click and CJK line wrapping in the TypeScript API
    * Renderer and input fixes: split-footer resize, transparent
      terminal backgrounds, markdown tables and hyperlinks, Thai
      spacing marks and Ghostty wide grapheme widths
    * Many more fixes and improvements; see upstream's release notes
      for the full list
  - Drop opentui-build-id.patch (upstream sets the build ID itself)
    and rework opentui-baseline-cpu.patch for the moved build.zig
  - Retire opentui-zig-deps-0.4.5.tar.zst and opentui_zigdeps: deps
    are vendored in-tree, unpacked at build time, nothing is fetched
  - Licence now Apache-2.0 AND BSD-3-Clause AND MIT AND
    (Unlicense OR MIT-0) for the vendored wuffs and libwebp code
  - Skip two X11 clipboard unit tests on aarch64, where they abort
    the test runner (opentui-aarch64-skip-crashing-x11-tests.patch);
    create /tmp/.X11-unix in %check for the socket bind test
* Mon Sep 14 2026 Martin Pluskal <mpluskal@suse.com>
  - Use the tree-sitter-javascript-wasm, -typescript-wasm,
    - markdown-wasm and -zig-wasm packages for the highlighter's
    grammar modules: the copies in the source tree become symlinks
    to them (Requires on the devel subpackage)
* Sun Aug 09 2026 Martin Pluskal <mpluskal@suse.com>
  - New package: opentui 0.4.5, a library for building terminal user
    interfaces whose layout, text shaping and rendering are done by a
    native core written in Zig that TypeScript programs drive over FFI
  - Split into two subpackages: opentui with the native library, and
    opentui-devel with the TypeScript that calls it (@opentui/core,
    @opentui/keymap and @opentui/solid), which is consumed as sources
    and bundled by the program using it rather than linked against
  - Not the newest release: the TypeScript and the native library talk
    over a private, unversioned FFI ABI, so both halves and every
    consumer have to come from the same release, and opencode - the
    only consumer in the distribution - pins 0.4.5. See
    README.SUSE-maint before bumping
  - Install the native library as @opentui/core-linux-<node arch>/
    libopentui.so under the opentui directory in the library path,
    which is both the name the optionalDependency import resolves and
    the layout upstream's OTUI_ASSET_ROOT expects, so a consumer can
    use either way of finding it
  - Rewrite the workspace:* specifiers the three packages use for each
    other to the concrete version, which is what npm publish does and
    what makes them resolvable outside upstream's monorepo
  - Verify at install time that every path in the packages' exports
    maps is actually shipped, so pruning upstream's build plumbing
    cannot silently remove an entry point (@opentui/solid keeps four
    modules under scripts/ that are exported API)
  - Add opentui_zigdeps, which prepares the two Zig dependencies (yoga
    and uucode) as an offline bundle for zig build --system, as the
    build would otherwise fetch them over the network
  - Build with -Dtarget=native rather than upstream's default, which
    is a glibc 2.17 cross target built against Zig's own bundled libc
    instead of the system one
  - Build the native library for the architecture baseline instead of
    for whatever CPU the build worker happens to have
    (opentui-baseline-cpu.patch): build.zig passes -Dtarget=native
    straight to std.Target.Query.parse, which leaves the CPU model at
    host detection, so a worker with FEAT_LRCPC turned the C++ in yoga
    into ldapr/stlur and the resulting libopentui.so died with SIGILL
    on every older aarch64 - ThunderX2, Cortex-A72 and the like - as
    soon as yoga laid out its first node. Only the code generator is
    affected; the library still links the host libc and libstdc++
  - Fail the build if the aarch64 library still contains those
    instructions, so a rebase cannot quietly reintroduce it
  - Require zig = 0.15.2: upstream's build.zig hard-checks for exactly
    that version, and Zig is not source compatible across releases
  - Add opentui-build-id.patch to ask the linker for a build ID, which
    Zig does not emit by default and without which rpm cannot split a
    debuginfo package off the library
